Biography

Dr. Vincenzo Villanacci graduated in Medicine and Surgery and specializes in Anatomical Pathology at the University of Bologna, where he followed the teachings of Prof. Antonio Maria Mancini and Prof. Walter Grigioni on the diseases and malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract and liver . Since 1986 he worked at the 2nd Service of Pathology of Spedali Civili of Brescia. During these years he devoted himself especially to studying diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, with particular regard to definition of guidelines for the histological diagnosis of celiac disease, in collaboration with the Italian Association of celiac disease and with prof. Corazza of Pavia he developed a new histologic classification of the disease.
Diagnostic problems of gastro-esophageal reflux disease and Barrett's esophagus Inflammatory bowel disease and damage from drugs in the gastrointestinal tract.
Diseases of the enteric nervous system. He spent periods of study at: The Department of Pathology at St. Mark's Hospital in
London under the guidance of prof. Talbot in particular on the problems of diversion, ulcerative and indeterminate colitis. Hospital for Sick Children in London with Dr. Mary Malone for gastrointestinal disease in children General Hospital in Birmingham with Professor Harry Thompson for the problem of celiac disease. Department of Pathology at the University of Leuven in Belgium, with prof. Karel Geboes on inflammatory bowel diseases
He is the author of over 150 publications indexed on Pub Med. He is Professor at the University of Brescia in the School of Specialization in Pathology, surgical digestive endoscopy and radiology. He is member of the Italian Society of Pathology, European Society of pathology and ECCO European Crohn’s and Colitis organization.
