Biography  Isabel Polanco

Isabel PolancoIsabel Polanco studied Medicine at the Complutense University of Madrid, MedicalSchool. She specialized in Paediatrics and  Gastroenterology at the Autonomous University of Madrid, and she graduated as a Doctor of Medicine, Ph D “cum laude and great prize” at the Autonomous University of Madrid. She specialized in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Children’s UniversityHospital ‘La Paz’ (Madrid). In 1987 she becomes Professor of Paediatrics at the MedicalSchool at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

I. Polanco is Head of the Department of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Children’s UniversityHospital ‘La Paz’ and General Secretary of the Spanish Paediatrics Association (AEP) and of the Spanish Federation of Societies of Nutrition and Dietetics (FESNAD). Her main topic in celiac disease: genetic, immunological and environmental factors. She has published 360 papers in international and Spanish journals. She has received several international Prizes and obtained 38 grants for research. She is a member of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN), North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) and more than 20 international paediatric associations. She is member of the boards of different national and international scientific journals.
